I made my first trip when I was seventeen years old and I did not know what to expect from the tour to CHEZ, but I was pumped and the idea to retreat did not once cross my mind. We marched throughout the night (around 40 kilometres) - no rest, through rivers, bushes, radioactive forests, across the main road and past an active Power Plant - to reach the promised land Pripyat city. When one of us felt tired, they would swallow a caffeine pill and push through. Recently, when we were already within the 10-kilometer zone, the brain had been so worn-out by fear of the police, wild beasts as well as severe physical stress that sometimes paranoia and hallucinations crept in, and we would hear strange sounds from inside the dark forests and bushes. But we pushed on ignoring the alarming sounds of the dosimeter.
